for Upham Woods Enviromental Camp |

Incorporating
native pine images, 96 handmade tiles surround firebox and create
decorative edging on slate hearth of main meeting hall at Upham Woods, a
4-H enviromental camp near Wisconsin Dells, WI.
Fireplace surround: 6' wide x 4' tall
Hearth of hand picked slate and hand made tile: 10.5' long x 2' wide
Fireplace tile, hearth and mantle made and installed by artist.

Over 320 handmade tiles were
cut from slabs of clay, decorated, carved, and impressed.
Over 30 glaze colors were used.
Mantle designed and handmade by artist.
Installation by artist.

The
homeowners worked with the artist on the design for this backsplash
commission.
The goal being to bring the outside IN, a design was developed that
incorporates the cattails and lake plants, a Great Blue Heron, a turtle,
frog, and bugs of the nearby lakeshore.
All tiles were hand made, carved, glazed, and installed by the artist.
