Tile Commissions/Installations

Working with clients on commission pieces that enhance their homes is an exciting opportunity for me. I truly enjoy learning about each client's ideas, needs, and the character of their living spaces. Client input is one of the biggest factors of my design process. After a design is completed and approved I can start changing a drawing and idea into real, tangible pieces.
The qualities of hand made tile is so one-of-a-kind with endless possibilities and it's so long lasting that each commission becomes an opportunity to create a truly unique piece that will be enjoyed for generations.
‚ÄčOnce ready, I usually install the piece(s) myself to ensure everything meets my standards and that each piece is exactly what the client had in mind and will function well for a very long time.
Every commission that I have had the opportunity to do has been very rewarding for me. It is satisfying to use my skills and experience to take what starts as an idea, make things that make clients happy, and fill a need for each client.

Otter Lake, MN.
Spring 2010

The homeowners worked with the artist on the design for this backsplash commission. With the goal of bringing the outside IN, a design was developed that incorporates the cattails, lake plants, a Great Blue Heron, a turtle, a frog, and bugs of the nearby lakeshore.
Over 185 tiles were made, carved, glazed, and installed by the artist.

2. Kitchen backsplash mosaic with accent tiles

2016. This commission began as a small mosaic for the stove area of the client's North Carolina water front home. As sketches were emailed with ideas and conversations took place, the commission grew to over 300 tiles. The 9'5" mosaic of a heron, a frog and dragonflies became the focal point. The other walls and nooks of the kitchen were tiled in dragonfly accent tiles and textured field tiles that were glazed to match the mosaic.
